Alert! Suspicious Vehicle - Park Farm - PFNHW member - 14th Dec 2006

Dear Chris

I have just posted a card at an address in Peckover Close. Walking from Portchester Close I saw a

Silver Mondeo, S328 KLM, white male, glasses, 30's white shirt and dark tie, clean shaven, dark hair - not black.

He was driving slowly down Framlingham Road, then went into the first road on the left, then into Peckover Close, then further down Framlingham. I posted my card and then he passed us going slowly up Framlingham Road. We lost sight of him then, but as I was walking along Portchester Close, he came out of Houghton Avenue, turned left towards the end of
Portchester Close, continued to the end and then turned round and went back to Park Farm Way. At the end of Portchester he turned left.

He seemed to be dressed like a normal business man but at this time of the evening (4.30pm) a lot of houses had lights on with curtains undrawn so he would be able to see inside very easily. He wasn't looking at a map or directions, so he didn't look lost.

It just seemed suspicious so I thought I would let you know.

Chrissie Bridge 15th Dec 2006

I have been contacted by one of my members regarding a vehicle acting suspiciously in the Portchester Close/Framlingham Road/Peckover Close and Houghton Avenue area. At approx 1630hrs last night, a Ford Mondeo Verona colour silver index number S328KLM was seen driving slowly around these estates. The driver has been described as a white male in his thirties wearing glasses, white shirt and dark tie.

He was clean shaven and had dark hair. It may be something or nothing, but worth keeping a watch out for.

We have also been advised by our colleagues in the Central Division that they have had some rogue traders knocking on doors. White male, approx 5ft 10ins, early 20's wearing yellow fluorescent jacket has been calling at addresses trying to get people to "Sponsor a Dog".  Although this male left quietly when occupants refused we believe this was likely to have been a fraudulent attempt to persuade the occupants to let him in, in order to explore the house. Apparently, this male had called earlier in the day to a different location and this time he was accompanied by a small lady (about 5ft 2in) carrying a clipboard.   No IDs were offered. Again the message was "Please sponsor a Dog" adding that no cash was required right away but if bank details could be provided a regular monthly sum could be contributed.

Update Burglaries - Framlingham Road - Chrissie Bridge - 14th Dec 2006
Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in alerting you to these two incidents in Framlingham Road, this has been due to the Neighbourhood Action Days which have taken place in Riseholme, Brudenell and Hinchcliffe, Orton Goldhay over the last two days - of which I have been involved.

There have been two incidents to report in Framlingham Road, both occurring on the 11th December.
At approx 1754hrs we received a call from a neighbour stating that approx 8 kids were breaking into an empty house. These kids were described as aged between 14-18yrs. On arrival of Officers a group of youths have been spoken to and details obtained. It would appear the garage door has been forced off its runners, however no permanent damage.

Then, at approx 2026hrs we received another call reporting a garage burglary. The suspects have caused criminal damage to the patio doors at the rear of the property. The damage was caused by ramming a large wooden stake from a 'For Sale' sign in between the centre part of the french doors. This has been done more than once as the plastic has been broken in more than one place. The stake has then been forced into the frame and the lock has been levered apart. No entry has been gained to the main house in anyway. A window frame has also been damaged.
A gents Red and White Honda Mountain cycle with red forks and a white frame with red stickers thereon and a ladies Silver Mountain cycle with a moulded child seat with yellow foot straps have been stolen.

If you have any information regarding these or any other crimes, please contact the Police on 0845 456 4564.

Alert! Update Daytime Burglaries - Framlingham Road - 12th Dec 2006

Those involved used a FOR SALE/TO LET board and post stolen from the rear fence of a property by the Horsey Toll Bridge. This sign was used in a very determined attempt to force entry into the rear patio doors and kitchen window of the property. Luckily the locks held true although the doors have been very badly damaged.

The garage was entered and two mountain bikes stolen. One of the bikes is worth £1000 and is very rare and distinctive.

Cycle Details

Gents Mountain Bike - GT Cycles - Honda Limited Edition. White, Triangular Frame with Red Suspension Forks. The saddle is embossed with Honda Sport, Shimano Brakes and Gears. GT and Honda livery.

Ladies Mountain Bike - Silver with White 'Obsession' livery. Cycle had child's seat attached with Yellow foot straps

Fly-tipping Update - Appeal for Information - 27th November 2006

The dumped material was kindly removed by PCC today. The more of this type of work PCC do the more our council tax bills rise each year so we need to send out a straight forward message that flytipping is not tolerated on Park Farm. PCC still wish to pursue a conviction for this or any other incident involving fly tipping so please get in touch below if you have any information that can help.

Park Farm NHW - we're doing it!

Original Posting Detail - 26th November 2006

Sadly, some extremely selfish person/s without any regard for the environment, the ambience of the area or indeed their community have dumped a complete wall unit on common ground to the rear of Belsay Drive near the childrens play park.

The offence occurred last night 25/11 between 17.00 and 22.00 hrs being found by our street patrol team.

Do you recognise the wall unit and know its previous owners?

We have had one address put forward but more info is requested if we are to help with any prosecution.

The local residents are quite rightly very angry at this act of anti social behaviour considering the efforts, particularly of late, by the litter teams and we appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact the Environmental Enforcement Officer - Gavin Wade on 01733 747474

A fly-tipping report (PCC415) has been filed this morning to get the removal process started and Gavin will be investigating the offence.

Southern Sector - Increase in shed burglaries - Chrissie Bridge - 20th Nov 2006
We have noticed an increase in Shed Burglaries across the Southern Sector.
Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to remind everyone regarding the security of their sheds.

Try to think like a burglar and see if you can work out how you would get into your own property, for example, if you lost your key. This will help you to identify weak points and which areas need attention.

Without realising it, you probably have a lot of valuable property in your sheds and outbuildings and you don't pay as much attention to security as you should. Power tools, lawnmowers, cycles, golf clubs etc are all expensive to replace and attractive to thieves.

Shed doors are notoriously easy to get into, so strengthen the door and frame if you can. Outside door hinges should be secured with coach bolts or similar. Use strong padbars and close shackle padlocks.

Windows are obviously a weak point in sheds and outhouses, if you do have an opening you can buy window locks to make these more secure. Fitting wire mesh on the inside of the window will also make it more secure. Curtains could be used to deter prying eyes.

Use an alarm - battery operated alarms may act as a deterrent. If you have a house alarm, you could have it upgraded to include your shed or garage.

Check what you keep in the shed. Does your insurance cover the shed and garage and all the equipment you store? Is everything post-coded so that you could identify it if it was stolen? Do you have a note of serial numbers? Do you secure property within the shed so that even if someone did break in, they would not just be able to walk off with all your valuable items. NEVER leave cycles unlocked and always keep a record of the Make, Model, Serial number, colour, frame number, serial number and any special features. Is your cycle post-coded? If not, speak to your local PCSO.

For further crime prevention advice or material contact the Community Safety Team at Bridge Street Station on 0845 456 4564.

Alert! Car Seriously Damaged - Portchester Close - 19th November 2006

During the early hours of the 19th November (Sunday) a members car was badly damaged in what appears to be an attempt to steal the vehicle. An attempt was made to force the door with what appears to be a crowbar and the door mirror was broken off. The attempt failed but the repair bill was in excess of £1000.

The force required to cause such damage must have caused a lot of noise which someone must have heard.

Did you see or hear anything? Let the police, crimestoppers or your street coordinator know in confidence without delay.

Please can we urge you to revisit your home/vehicle security today and report any suspicious persons or cars. Please don't leave it for someone else to do it.

Dwelling Burglary Arrest - Chrissie Bridge - 13th Nov 2006
You will be pleased to hear that not one but two well known local burglars have been arrested.
Initially the occupants of a house in Orton Malborne returned home yesterday afternoon/evening to find they had been broken into. However, a short time later whilst the occupants were upstairs the offenders had the audacity to return !! The occupants remained silent and contacted the Police to report a burglary in progress. Local Officers along with the Dog Handler and Traffic quickly arrived at the scene just in time to see one of the offenders leaving the scene on a pedal cycle. PC Bridge gave chase on foot giving a running commentary to his colleagues enabling the Traffic Officers to make an arrest. The second offender was then spotted by PCSO Scott so he too was duly arrested. One of the offenders had some property in his possession which is believed to be stolen goods albeit not from this burglary. This particular burglary may have been prevented as the neighbours admit to hearing a loud bang and breaking glass but did not report it.
There was also another evening burglary the night before which had the same MO.

This is an ideal opportunity to remind everyone that now the winter evenings are drawing in and we are all stocking up ready for Christmas - please remember to leave lights on timers and perhaps the TV or radio playing. With the curtains closed the house will then appear occupied.
One of my NHW members even suggested disconnecting the door bell when you are out or away.

If you hear any unusual noises or witness anything suspicious/untoward, please ring the Police - it's better to be safe than sorry !

Appeal for Information - Ben Duce - 7th November 2006

Once again I am asking for your help.

There has been some criminal damage predominantly around Shamrock Close area. Plant pots have been tipped over, slabs along the tops of walls have been pushed off. A small minority of mindless people are making life a misery for some of the elderly folk around the area. I want to eradicate this behaviour and sooner rather than later. If you cast your minds back I had a great response from residents in the same area when there was a similar series of incidents involving criminal damage, walls and fences being damaged. I don't think that it is the same group, however I do have my suspicions. If you have any idea who the offenders are please call or e-mail me, or of course Tina or Stewart. I only need one name, from that I can normally get the rest.

Also anti social behaviour around the area of Wright Avenue, Rayner Avenue, Allen Avenue and the green area opposite the BP garage on Whittlesey Road. This is in the main youths over the weekends acquiring alcohol and then making life a misery for the residents because they are drunk. I have my suspicions that they may be Stanground College students as some warnings were issued by residents and it has eased slightly. If you know who these nuisances are then call us and let us know.

Northants police reported that they had a distraction burglary also, at a time around 19:30 hours at Woodfield Road, Collyweston and their elderly victim had a quantity of cash stolen.

The descriptions for all three bear similarities and build a picture:

Car Vandals arrested with help from Park Farm NHW member - 21st Oct 2006
Thanks to the vigilance of a Park Farm NHW member who gained video evidence, 3 males have been arrested for vandalising cars on the Park Farm estate. More information to follow.
School Safety Message - PCSO Stuart Smith - 18th Oct 2006
When we talk of school safety, we do not just mean how safe our little ones are when through the school gates each morning. It includes the journey to and from school and also about dropping them off. I am getting increasing reports of concern from members of the public, about the manner in which, people are parking illegally on zebra or pelican crossings, on double yellow lines or sometimes double parking next to a vehicle already committing these offences, in order to drop off or pick up children from the school gates.

The double yellow lines are there for a reason, and parking or stopping on these could see you with a penalty notice for £60.00. Also we have all noticed the 'zig zag' lines leading up to and immediately after a pelican or zebra crossing. These are in place to stop anyone parking or waiting on the approach or exit from the crossing as it prevents people that are using the crossing from getting a full view of the traffic on the road. Now along with a £60.00 penalty notice, some people maybe surprised to learn, that you are also liable to 3 penalty points on your driving licence. It is a very serious matter and this type of illegal parking is putting children's lives in danger. There are also alarming reports of parents letting children out of vehicles directly into the road where traffic is flowing freely, or watching them crossing the road between parked cars.

These are your children that are being put at risk, so I ask parents to please be aware of the dangers and to think when they are doing the daily school run.

I will be out and about in the coming weeks checking further on these reports and if I do not see any improvement, tickets and penalty points will start to be issued for the offences.

Make it Tough! Remove Your Stuff! - Vehicle Crime Advice, Chrissie Bridge.
Last Thursday PCSO Sallie Lunness, PCSO Paul Spencer and myself took a walk around the car parks surrounding the Orton Centre. The aim of this was to identify vehicles with property on display which acts as an invite to thieves. This property includes CD's, cigarette cartons, loose change, bags, and coats to name but a few. These may seem inexpensive items to you but to a thief it is easy money.

Also the "pop off" fascia stereos that still had the fascia on! In total we discovered 138 cars that were vulnerable. We noted the registration numbers and these will be forwarded to DVLA who will send a warning letter out to the owner.

Vehicle crime in Peterborough as a whole has risen recently mainly in theft from as opposed to theft of. By hiding property you reduce the temptation which will make you a victim.

Also many people with phones, sat nav and laptops just hide them in glove boxes, boots or underseat storage. Thieves can detect these devices via the technology called "bluetooth" which is basically wireless connectivity between two or more enabled devices that has a range of about ten metres.

They can walk around a car park with a device searching for bluetooth equipment and when close enough it will detect and enable them to attack the vehicle and steal it. If you do leave such items in your car ensure the bluetooth is turned off and the item is powered down.

Numerous owners had placed objects in the boot however, had then left the back seat down leaving the property on view. We also noticed several vehicles with the sunroofs left on tilt, this is the same entrance availability as an open window for a thief.

Finally several vehicles had "steering lock" devices inside but unfortunately they had been left on the floor and not secured to the vehicle. Not a very good deterrent and a terrible waste of money I think you will all agree.

This is not just occurring in and around Orton, so please take note of these suggestions.

UPDATE - Together we can put a stop to this NOW! - 23rd October 2006

Further update from Ben Duce via e-cops - 27th Oct 2006.
Once again another good result from good collaboration between the local community and ourselves. There have been numerous incidents over the past weeks of children running around the estate throwing eggs and fruit at peoples houses. Not only does it make a mess, it had also become very annoying to the victims concerned, who I hasten to add were in the main random.
Photographic evidence given to the police led to identification of all the offenders, six in total. They have all been advised in front of their parents that their behaviour will not be tolerated, letters will also be sent to the parents confirming our dissatisfaction of their children's actions.
Once again thanks to all of those residents that assisted me in resolving this issue. If it continues please let Tina, Stuart or myself know and this time we will tackle it in a more formal manner.

Great News!

After receiving photographic evidence, information and descriptions from our members PC Duce has this evening (23rd) managed to detain 5 of the fruit & egg throwing offenders.

Let’s hope that this silly behaviour is now at an end.

Ben will update by ECOPS soon.

Well done everyone. The descriptions, excellent use of technology and good police work has resulted in several youths being detained over the last couple of days for various offences. We'll let you know more as it happens.

PREVIOUS APPEAL

Of late many residents have been experiencing anti social behaviour in the form of youngsters throwing fruit and eggs at their houses.

Today, yet another report has come in from Kedleston Road. Members have also been affected in Portchester Close, Park Farm Way and Belsay Drive.

We must work together and show that this behaviour is out of order and will not be tolerated. We need your help with information in the form of names, addresses and/or best of all, photographic or video evidence.

Latest information from Kedleston is a group of youths running off into Brodsworth Road (10 -12 years of age).

On Sunday the following descriptions were passed to us. One male youth (12 -15 yrs) wears a baseball cap. (We think we may know who this is now) and a female with long brown hair with a fringe riding a bicycle.

Please be vigilant and report any information to PC Duce or your street coordinator or call 07939 664788.

Together we will crack this annoying problem.

Identification Appeal - PC Ben Duce - 14th October 2006

I now have photographic evidence of the youths throwing eggs and apples at houses in Park Farm and will be taking steps to catch up with them in the very near future. If anyone can assist and point me in the direction of a male, about 12-15 years old, slim build, at the time he was caught on camera he was wearing a white tracksuit with dark coloured sleeves.

Arrest Update - PC Ben Duce - 14th October 2006

We have managed to arrest a male in relation to the recent series of burglaries in Stanground, once again information from the community has pointed us in the right direction with a positive result.

I have managed to locate one of the motor bike owners that have been racing up and down the path next to the river over the past few weeks, once again, liaison between residents and myself have enabled me to locate and deal with the offender. There are still a few people who want to ride around the area illegally though.

Thanks for all the help so far and of course for any that I may receive in the future.

Cannabis 'CRACK DOWN' - 11 October 2006

A CRACK DOWN on cannabis factories in the county has netted around £2.7 million worth of the drug.

Operation Keymer, led by the Force's serious and organised crime unit, was part of a national crack down on those involved in cannabis factories, running between Monday September 25 and Friday October 6. During the two week campaign officers issued nine warrants at homes in the county, arresting 12 people and seizing over 4500 cannabis plants.

DCI Paul Fullwood, who ran the operation, said: "The operation has proved a great success, with Cambridgeshire one of the leading forces involved in the crackdown. "Through dedicating times and resources to the issue we have been able to severely disrupt the activities of those involved in cannabis factories. "To have taken £2.7 million worth of cannabis off the streets is a great result for us.

"However this operation was never about cannabis alone. Those involved in masterminding its cultivation are serious and organised criminals, often involved in criminality such as people trafficking, kidnap and murder. "By disrupting their activities we hope to learn more about the other strands of crime involved in this network."

This is not the force's first success with combating cannabis factories. Since July the serious and organised crime unit has led raids and closed down ten cannabis factories in the county - seven in Peterborough, two in Huntingdonshire and Fenland and one in Cambridge.

DCI Fullwood added: "This is not the end of our work to target those involved in cannabis factories. During recent years we have seen the number of cannabis factories operating within the county rise dramatically and therefore our work will continue.

"I am positive there are still cannabis factories operating within the county that we may not yet be aware of. "These factories are usually set up in residential areas and from the outside look like perfectly ordinary homes. I would therefore urge the public to continue to be vigilant to activities in their neighbourhood, such as:

Curtains being constantly closed.

A lot of noise when someone moves into a property but afterwards no-one seems to be living there.

There are strange smells.

Paper or plastic is put outside the windows.

There is excess heat.

There is condensation.

Anyone with information about cannabis factories should contact police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Cannabis - THE RISKS

The majority of the cannabis seized by police is known as skunk, which is extremely strong and dangerous.

On average the THC (tetrahydrocannabrid) content of skunk is 12%, whereas resin and herbal cannabis is around 3%.

Regular cannabis use can lead to health problems, affecting both physical and mental health. Physical health issues include respiratory conditions due to smoking and increased risk of accidents both on and off the roads.

Mental health problems can range from lack of concentration and fatigue through to the early onset of episodes of psychosis in those people who have a predisposition towards mental illness.

The cultivation of cannabis in residential area also causes a significant risk to the public. Every year cannabis factories cause over 100 fires.

Cannabis factories require a large supply of electricity. The meter is usually bypassed, creating a risk of fire and electrocution.

Fundraising Scam for K.I.N.D. - 9th October 2006
Police were alerted on Friday when a member of public brought in two glossy posters and a printed sheet purporting to be from KIND (Kids in Need of Dreams) - the accompanying posters state that the organisation is raising funds to take terminally ill children to Disney in Orlando to swim with dolphins - the accompanying letter asks that a local raffle/campaign be organised with a prize of a donated holiday for two including flights.

Bank details are included in order that funds can be deposited to them!!

You should also be aware that no charity registration number appears anywhere on this literature.

However, checks with the real charity have shown that this promotion is nothing to do with them. They have asked that should any companies/individuals wish to help their charity fundraising, their website address is www.kind.org.uk and there are facilities to donate online.

Information Update from PC Ben Duce - 6th October 2006

Still having a few problems with mini motos and motor cycles in and around the area. I have my suspicions as to who they are and will be making enquiries in the near future. Up to now we have had some excellent results with regards to evidence in the form of photos and with that evidence some good results.

One in particular being a male photographed by a Park Farm NHW Scheme member, summoned to court, received a £180.00 fine and disqualified from driving.

Without your help it is very difficult for us to arrest and subsequently the courts convict. This single incident proves that as a community and working with us we can achieve some excellent results. As I said in my first e-cops news letter, you assist me in getting evidence and I will do the rest.

Kids have been causing problems around Park Farm throwing eggs and fruit. We do have good photographic evidence of two youths throwing eggs again taken by a Park Farm NHW Scheme member. One of them was wearing a white tracksuit with dark sleeves.

If anybody knows who he is please either e-mail me or call the usual number. Better still if you know it is you that I am talking about then call me and we can get this issue resolved in a civilised manner.

Any other issues that you would like to discuss with either myself or PCSO Tina Griffin please call or e-mail. We are here to help.

Please be aware that sometimes we will not reply if it is simply information you want to pass inwards for our attention. Even if you don't hear from us directly then please be assured that everything you send us will be actioned or reviewed.

If the matter is more urgent or of a general nature then I would urge you to ring 0845 456 4564 and you will then be able to get quicker attention. If an event is in progress or very urgent call 999. If you need to report a crime then please call 0845 456 4564. I would urge residents to report all crimes however trivial so we get a good idea of where the problems are.

A night of trouble on Park Farm - 16/17 September 2006
Police Incident number 226/170906

Sadly on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning Park Farm was targeted by a group of yobs intent on disturbing the peace, theft, criminal damage and vandalism.

Witnesses described the initial group to be up to 20 in number descending into the area from the Whittlesey Road direction.

Two cars were also reported to have stopped in Park Farm Crescent with the group. One believed to be a Dark Blue or Black Mercedes 'A' Class.

Reported incidents were as follows:

  • The nursery had a large plastic dolls house and other play equipment stolen from the rear play area. The dolls house was found to have been smashed up and set on fire in the childrens park. Other items were found broken and strewn all over the nursery car park.
  • Although the roof is being replaced today (18th) after our appeal to EDF to repair it, many of the roof tiles on the electricity substation were removed and left smashed in the nursery car park.
  • A member in Kedleston Road reported to us in confidence that on Sunday morning he found his side gate propped open and his shed door ajar. Luckily there was nothing of value in the shed to steal.
  • Graffiti attacks throughout the area.

We appeal to anyone who may have any information, no matter how small, to please contact the police on 0845 456 4564 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or any street coordinator in confidence and quote the police incident number shown above.

Only working together will we beat this and bring those guilty of such appalling behaviour before the courts.

Several pictures were taken of those damaging the substation roof and these have been sent to PC Duce. Hopefully this will also identify some of the culprits.

Theft of Cycle - Portchester Close - 12th August 2006
Gents Blue/Grey - Scott Sub30 Hybrid Style Cycle between 23.58 12/8 & 02.00 13/8.
Vehicle Damage - Church Street - Stanground

There appears to be a pattern happening with vehicle damage to cars parked in Church Street, Stanground. When the Polish Club has an overspill from its car park their members are parking in Church Street and the local residents are having to park their cars out of their usual spot outside their homes and across the road near to the bus like shelter. When this happens vehicles are having acid or paint stripper poured over their cars overnight. This is causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

We as of yet have limited intelligence as to who could be doing this so I ask you to keep an eye out when in the area for anyone acting suspiciously in the area when cars are parked near to this location (bus type shelter.)

If you should have any information please will you ring into the control room on 0845 456 456 4 or leave a message on my work phone 07736086899 as I am keen to find out who is doing this.

Where are your teenagers?

Last night I attended an incident with a Orton officer to a report of a group of youths being rowdy and drinking alcohol under the Black Bridge near Riversidemead, Stanground. Thanks to my colleague putting this
newsletter out to all those recipients in the Orton area my job has been made easier to cut and paste this to the rest of the sector!

Upon our arrival we were confronted by about fifteen sixteen year old boys and girls. They had in their possession a mixture of beers alcopops and spirits which they admitted cost them around one hundred pounds. This comprised of about one hundred and fifty cans and bottles of beer, about eight large bottles of alcopops and four bottles of spirits!! They were bought it by an eighteen year old friend from Tesco's at Serpentine Green.

They were celebrating the end of school as many of them were off to college and also a birthday of one of the youths. They were drinking under a bridge by a fast flowing stretch of river with no lighting! The alcohol was confiscated and disposed of and they were given words of advice regarding their behaviour, the dangers of being drunk especially next to a river and also the damage that drinking so much alcohol can do to the body.

Letters will be sent to their parents detailing the incident to make them aware. Although these youths thought they were doing the right thing by drinking out of the way and they were friendly and courteous to us at all times the dangers are all to apparent let alone the law breaking involved. It is illegal for anyone under eighteen to drink alcohol in a public place and its also against the law for an adult to buy alcohol with the intent to supply it to under age drinkers plus its just irresponsible.

If you have kids around this age group please advise them of the laws and dangers and also that if they misbehave too much they could find themselves with a room and breakfast for the night at a police station and an expensive day in court for drunk and disorderly! Everyone likes to have fun and enjoy themselves but we all want them to stay safe and prosper in life.

The patrols cleared the litter and glass left behind so as the park would be safe for the next day.

23 March 2006 – NEWS
Reported burglaries and car theft 220306

Please be vigilant and ensure that you check your doors and windows are shut, locked and chained and that your house alarm is on even when you are in the house at night.

Try to break the habit of leaving your house or car keys in the front door near your letterbox. Consider moving any keys or key racks completely out of site of letterboxes and windows to a place where only you and your family can find them in an emergency.

Consider additional security lighting or PIR control of your existing outside lighting to put off anyone approaching your property. The rear or side of a house are where most attempts to break in are made.

If you haven’t got one consider purchasing a house alarm and having it installed. Wireless ones start from £100 plus fitting.

Don’t forget your car or van. Remove anything of value completely from the vehicle. Thieves have learnt that equipment is likely to be hidden under the seat or in the boot or glove box so don’t think these are good hiding places. Check you’ve locked your vehicle before retiring and if you have an alarm or additional deterrent make sure it’s on.

Get all your property including those in your garden shed and garage security marked, etched or stamped so as they become less attractive and in many cases worthless to criminals. I have a permanent UV marker you can borrow if required, please let me know and I will drop off.

Remember your own personal protection. Consider carrying a protection alarm and make sure your back door is locked and your chain is on before answering the front door.

URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED

Your urgent attention is required with regards to a car seen cruising Park Farm.

The vehicle a Dark Blue or Black Rover 400 (Old Shape) Index L426 TWK was seen in Kedleston Road yesterday evening cruising slowly without lights. The two occupants stopped outside two separate addresses with high value cars and appeared to be checking them out.

Please be vigilant and report any sightings directly to the police on 999 if the car and occupants are still about for an immediate response.

This vehicle and its occupant’s behaviour are highly suspicious and these could well be the culprits behind the recent cases of vehicle theft and letterbox burglaries.
