PCSO Shirley Beswick
PCSO Stuart Craig
PCSO Tania Weston

Police Community Safety Officer Carol Aston

Meet your local neighbourhood policing team
Sector Inspector - Matt Snow

I will be writing to you on a regular basis, giving updates on what my officers are doing in your area. I would ask that if you have any issues you would like to discuss, please call me on 0345 456 456 4.

I strongly believe that e-cops is an effective tool to keep you updated on what we are doing, provide advice, and to assist in reducing crime.

I am attempting to increase the number of subscribers in your area, and am asking for your assistance with this. Can you speak to your neighbours, friends, colleagues, and make them aware of the scheme. The more subscribers there are, the more effective crime prevention tool it will be.

Thanks
Inspector Matt Snow

Sector Sergeant - Luke Coulson

I am Sergeant 1916 Luke COULSON, as of 1st June 2009 I took responsibility for the Peterborough South East Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT). I was promoted on the 1st June so this is my first permanent posting.

I joined Cambridgeshire Constabulary in SEPTEMBER 2004. When I joined I was posted to HUNTINGDON POLICE STATION as a front line officer where I learned my trade for 2 years. Following this I spent 2 years on the NPT at HUNTINGDON dealing with neighbourhood issues.

Immediately prior to my arrival here I spent 9 months as a temporary sergeant at WISBECH POLICE STATION where I worked as a front line sergeant responding to calls for service as they came in to the Police.

I have a great passion for Police work and look forward to the challenges my new area will bring.

During the first 2 weeks of my role I was away from the station on a training course so did not join the team until Monday 15th June. During this time I have spent some time getting to know the team and getting to know the area which I will serve. There are a number of on going matters which the team are dealing with, I will support them to do this and look forward to achieving positive results.

As always, if we can be of any assistance to you please do not hesitate to contact us via eCops or if the matter is more urgent by telephone on 0345 456 456 4.

Yours faithfully,
Luke Coulson

Stanground East Police Update - 5th July 2010

Since our last update to you we have been busy with an assortment of things, which has meant we had to miss a special events, the Southfields Junior School Sports Day held on Friday 25th June. We trust everyone had a good time.

If you are living in the Chapel Street or South Street area you would have experienced a lot of commotion, seen a number of police officers and vehicles in the recent past. This was in relation to an incident between two families that escalated on two occasions. In total 7 arrests were made and each person bailed. All parties have been equally spoken to, words of advice on their behaviour, together with their Housing Options and PCC.

We would like to reassure everyone that things are in place in an effort to prevent a repeat of these types of incidents. Investigations are still ongoing.

The crime profile for Stanground has changed dramatically over the last twelve months. Crimes raised in the past were in the main for Criminal Damage and reports to the police were for Anti-social Behaviour caused by a minority of youths in the area. This has significantly dropped with crimes and incidents reported being more in relation to disputes between neighbours, families and domestics; in the majority of cases there are known suspects who have been arrested.

On the 25th June someone has taken the generator being used for the skate park build. The were driving a 4x4 and travelled towards Whittlesey. This is so disappointing because the young people have raised money to ensure the park is built and have kept an eye on the area to prevent damage occurring. This has been successful up until this incident.

We maintain regular contact with our local community when we are on patrol, a number of concerns have been raised, we will discuss these at the next panel meeting, the concerns are speeding in the area, parking around school & underage drinking.

As a result of these concerns, we have carried out a number of speed checks at different locations in the area. We will do this on a regular basis. If you would be interested in training as a Speedwatch volunteer please let us know.

Some of you may receive letters from us in connection with valuables being on display in your vehicle. If we notice valuables while we are on patrol we make contact with the vehicle owner by post. If we can see the items on display in the car then so can a thief! In the past 2 weeks we have sent out 49 letters!

On a rather exciting note we now have an official logo for the Stanground Youth Project Group (SYPG). This logo was designed by 3 talented youngsters who have been very committed to the group, Rachel Harper, Sam Skinner and Matt Woods. This logo will represent the group on all our projects. You will hear some more about this and see the logo in the very near future!

Ideas are currently being explored regarding the up and coming Big Lunch event. This is an event that began last year when thousands of people within communities joined together and shared a meal. The idea is that streets, lanes, roads, parks are filled by residents and neighbours, sharing a big lunch as well as ideas, hobbies and fun. This is a great opportunity to stoke up some community spirit within your area whether it be with a BBQ, a hog roast or just a few sandwiches. If you want to start an event in your street please visit thebiglunch.com for ideas and inspiration and downloadable advertising material.

Please don't forget that your next panel meeting is tomorrow on Tuesday 6th July @ 1900 HRS. It will be held at Brewster Avenue Primary School, we look forward to seeing you there.

Your next 2 street surgeries are:

05/07/10 - 1800 to 1900 - Car Park @ Heritage House
19/07/10 - 1200 to 1300 - The Parade - Outside the Co-op

Stanground East Police Update - 10th June 2010

The majority of news this week is good. The new Skate Park being built on the Thurning Avenue Park is progressing well. On speaking to the Site Manager he had nothing but praise for the youngsters in the area. He was impressed that they had not caused any damage to the site.

The previously experienced problems at the Parade have diminished although not fully eradicated, which is our goal. On speaking to an elderly gent, who lives in the vicinity, he said he now is now happy to shop at any time and was not worried about having to plan around who was outside the Parade.

The 'Youth Booth' is at full capacity and youngsters spoken to are all enjoying having somewhere to go with their friends.

The Skate Park and the Youth Booth are projects that have been initiated by the Stanground Youth Project Group. This group is made up of different partners and agencies: police, PCC, Housing, NHW, Councillors and most importantly youth representatives who lead the group and ensure projects being bid for are needed. They are also responsible for putting together and presenting some of the bids.

We have recently had a group of 10+ youngsters in the area possibly drinking. They have caused a disturbance on the Parade by kicking windows and a football at the Premier shop. On this occasion there was no damage and it has only happened once. If you see this group please let us know, where possible please identify who is in the group so we can speak to them individually.

They have also been reported for gathering at Viking Court and possibly drinking. They were not doing anything but were being rather loud.

We also ask for your tolerance if they are not doing anything and have moved themselves away. What is not acceptable is verbal abuse or anti-social behaviour.

At a Street Surgery held on Saturday 5th June on Coneygree Road we had a few people stop and talk to us. The main area of concern were quad bikes, mini motos, go kart and boy racers in their cars. We are aware of the problems and are committed to tackling the problem. We continue to remove mini motors and motorbikes from the roads and we are working closely with housing and the city council to get the support of parents.

We ask you all to continue reporting both concerns and where possible give a vehicle index number or anything that makes a vehicle stand out.

Police Community Support Officers – their role explained - 19th May 2010
We often get asked about the difference between Police Constables and Police Community Support Officers. PCSO’s are uniformed staff whose role is to support the work of police officers within the community in Neighbourhood Policing Teams. They are a vital part of these teams and a large part of their role is to patrol in communities and work with organisations like the local councils to tackle the menace of anti-social behaviour.

PCSO’s do not have the same powers of arrest as police officers, although they do have the right to detain suspected offenders for up to thirty minutes until a police officer arrives. They also are able to give tickets for certain offences such as parking and littering. You can find out more about the role of a PCSO on our website.

PCSO’s Your Questions Answered

We are offering you the chance to have your say on PCSOs and to give us your views, or ask us any questions you might have about their policing role and powers. If you would like to take part in the discussion, simply submit your question or comment to us using the questions link at the bottom of this message.

The closing date for this discussion is the 3rd of June 2010. The answers to all your questions as well as any comments we have received will be posted on the site from the 26th of June 2010.

Kind regards

Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

The People's Priority - 6th October 2009

Cambridgeshire Police Authority and Constabulary are asking you what you think police should focus their efforts on next year. For the first time ever a ‘People’s Priority’ will be included in next year’s Policing Plan, meaning that you will get to decide what should be a priority for policing in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Each year the Police Authority publishes a three-year rolling plan setting out what is expected of Cambridgeshire Constabulary in terms of tackling national and local priorities. It provides an overview of the resources available, how these will be used and specifies how Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s performance will be monitored. The Police Authority is asking you for your views on the 2009-2012 plan, which is available in libraries across Cambridgeshire and online using this link as well as asking them what should be included in next year’s plan.

The overall ‘People’s Priority’ will be decided based solely on the consensus of public opinion and will be included in next year’s Local Policing Plan. The deadline for responses is 23rd November 2009.

Full Time Resident Police Officer for Stanground Community College - 10th August 2009

Following a long and successful relationship with Stanground College it has been agreed that it would be beneficial for a full time PCSO or Police Constable to be located at the College. This officer will be working in the College at the start of the new term.

This has the full support of the College and is to assist students with any problems they may be experiencing which are causing concern in their life. It also gives the College an opportunity to address issues such as truancy, leaving the College grounds at lunchtime and any other incidents that may occur.

The officer will work closely with students out of term time in order to maintain the relationship that has been built.

This initiative has worked well in other schools, academies and colleges giving everyone involved a neutral area for problem solving.

School Holidays - 27th July 2009

Its that time of year again, School holidays!  The majority of children will be making the most of any good weather and enjoying their free time however this could unfortunately be an opportunity for Anti-social behaviour to rise so please stay vigilant.

Anti-social behaviour is being tackled in your area.

As an example 32 bottles of alcohol were confiscated from youths and disposed of throughout the weekend of 5th - 6th July.

Speed complaints from South Street, Church Street and North Street have been noted, therefore periods in which we will be monitoring speed will be taking place throughout August and will continue regularly.

Please be assured there is a lot of work going on in your area, the team are working hard and patrols are continuing to have a positive effect.

Update From Sergeant 1916 Coulson - 24th July 2009

It gives me great pleasure to provide you with an update on the work done by your local team.

During the panel meeting earlier this month 3 priorities were set:

- Anti-Social Behaviour Fellowes Gardens
- Anti-social Behaviour Lawson Avenue
- Anti-Social Behaviour High Street, Fletton

Since this meeting the team have been working hard to make an impact on these priorities.

We have spent the following number of hours working on these priorities:

- Fellowes Gardens - 26 hours
- Lawson Avenue - 35 hours
- High Street - 26 daytime hours & 21 night time hours

While we spend time working on these priorities we do not neglect our day to day work. We have spent time investigating crimes and working on other incidents as and when they are reported.

We are working hard to reduce the amount of time it takes to investigate and take action on crimes that are reported to us. I am pleased to say that the large majority of the crimes we are investigating are current crimes where we have a realistic chance of finding investigative leads.

Since I joined the team there have been a number of ongoing disputes to resolve. We have worked alongside Peterborough City Council, Cross Keys Housing, Private Landlords & Land Registry to name a few. We are aware of how these directly impact on the quality of life the residents these affect. We take a systematic approach to resolving these problems to the benefit of all parties involved.

In the near future you will hear more from your local officers about the work they are doing and other things that may be of interest to you.

As a Sergeant I get caught up in all kinds of different issues. I spend time at meetings, dealing with paperwork, dealing with staff welfare amongst other things. This means I sometimes spend less time on the beat than I would like, I am pleased to report that I also have been working hard in your local area.

I issued a Penalty Notice to a male who got drunk and damaged a wing mirror of a taxi. The investigation lead me to the male who admitted fully his involvement and was issued with a Penalty of £80.00. This was in addition to £295.11 he is paying to repair the damage.

Cannabis was seized from a male by local PCSO's, I attended the scene and searched a number of other males who were present, there was no cannabis with them, the male was issued a Cannabis Warning. A crime is recorded and detected with the male being named as the offender. If he is caught with cannabis in future he will not be eligible for a further Cannabis Warning and will be dealt with by Penalty Notice or by being arrested.

This is of course not an exhaustive list of the things we have done but should give you an idea about the work we have been doing on your behalf.

As always we welcome contact from you.

Yours faithfully,

PS 1916 Coulson
