Graffiti in the area - PCSO Nicole Killgallon - 28th November 2007

PCSO Nicole Killgallon

This is a problem which every area suffers with at some stage. There has been an increase of graffiti in your area and we need to all work together to try and reduce these acts of vandalism.

To the people that commit these offences, it may seem that it is harmless fun. In actual fact the results can be costly and costs members of the public and the authorities hundreds if not thousands of pounds every year. The graffiti is also an eyesore and can be offensive if not in a designated area. I would urge anyone who knows any information about anyone committing this offence to contact us on 0845 456 456 4

Update - Offensive Graffiti Attack - Children's Play Park - 16th Jan 07

This morning the reported graffiti has been removed from the children's play area by the council. Our own graffiti team have painted the 4 NTL& BT turrets found affected at the top of Aydon Road on Park Farm Way, two near the park on Park Farm Way and one in Framlingham Road.

We need to see that these idiots get the punishment they deserve so please call us with any information in confidence.

Original Posting 15th Jan 07

We are appealing for help in tracing those responsible for the offensive Graffiti found by the patrols in the childrens play park. We can't show a picture of the wording for fear of causing further offence but parents of young children will no doubt be horrified at what has been sprayed on the play equipment by the same group who sprayed the substation as posted below.

This is getting out of hand and we need to put these idiots before the courts as soon as possible. Does anyone know who Cameron is?

If you can help please contact the police, crimestoppers, your street coordinator or call 07939 664788 without delay. Only with your help can we drive this out of Park Farm.

PCC will action removal asap.

Thank you for the information received. This has been passed on to the police for further investigation.

Our team removed or painted out all the tags on the 21st.

This is criminal damage and those responsible will be prosecuted when identified. Most children/youths know who uses a particular tag. Who are 'GM' and 'Sound''? If you or your children have any information please contact us, the Police or Crimestoppers anonymously in complete confidence.

How can I prevent my building from becoming a graffiti target?
You can prevent graffiti on your property by:
  • putting trellis or climbing plants on walls to create an uneven surface. This deters vandals as graffiti will not be clearly visible
  • using paint with muted tones ie brick red, brown or grey. Vandals are less likely to deface property with these colours as the graffiti will not stand out. Do not use black or white
  • using good quality polyurethane gloss paint as it is the easiest to clean
  • use good security measures to prevent access for graffiti vandals e.g. night-lights, CCTV, locks and fences
  • ensuring graffiti is removed quickly and regularly which lessens the likelihood of vandals striking again
  • paint over the graffiti, it is a quicker and cheaper method than chemical removal
  • using anti-graffiti coatings
  • sacrificial coatings (sugar/wax based) are recommended for delicate surfaces and prevents graffiti from penetrating surfaces. Graffiti can be removed with a hot jet-washer but the "sacrificial" coating will need to be re-applied.

Residents should report graffiti to their Street Coordinator.
