Number Plate Thefts - Cambs Police - 4th February 2010

There has recently been an increase in the number of reports of stolen number plates in the Stanground area.

They could be used on other vehicles to avoid congestion charges, speeding fines or to commit criminal activity including thefts of fuel. There is also a possibility they are being stolen by youths as 'trophies'.

Vehicle owners can reduce the risk of their number plates being stolen by replacing normal screws with anti theft number plate screws. These are available from most vehicle parts shops and suppliers or via the internet.

If you have any information which could help us please contact your NHW coordinator or telephone Cambridgeshire police on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police Appeal - Bogus Callers - 24th December 2009

Police Appeal - ASB Portchester Close - 4th December 2009

We have been experiencing ASB on Portchester Close whereby a small group of youngsters have been targeting one address. Over the past few weeks this group has been attending the address and either ringing the door bell or knocking on the door and running off.

They wear hoods to hide their faces from the CCTV which has been installed, unfortunately we are unable to offer any useful descriptions. They can arrive at any time including 0100 in the morning.

In itself the offence is minor but when you are faced with this on a regular basis it can become very disturbing and frustrating, we need to trace them and bring this to a speedy resolution.

Police appeal for help with ASB nuisance in Park Farm - PCSO Spratt - 27th November 2009
We are currently experiencing anti social behaviour in Fen View, Aydon Road, Eastrea Court, Delph Court and Belsay Way.

It appears to be a number of youths who live in the area. Some residents have had items such as apples and mud thrown at houses and past week two vehicles had been damaged.

It is important that you contact us in relation to any anti social behaviour. We can only deal with problems in the area if we are made aware of them. We have already spoken to a number of youths in the area and have taken names and address.  Over the course of the next week we will speak with residents who have been aggrieved by the youths behaviour. If we can identify offenders then we will be taking swift action. In some cases this may mean a breach of tenancy conditions this in turn will ensure parents start taking responsibility for there own children's behaviour.

Your local NPT will be visiting local residents within the above area's and conducting brief survey to gain an accurate picture of any problems we are sharing.

Most of the problems appear to be happening between 7pm and 8pm and then after midnight. We have already increased our patrols with in this part of Stanground and want these problems stopped.

If you have youths causing a problem outside your property or outside a neighbours property then please call us on 0345 456 456 4

Police appeal for help with Mini Moto nuisance - PCSO Spratt - 27th November 2009

We have been very successful of late in catching mini motos being ridden in an inappropriate manner. Over the past seven weeks there is one vehicle which is proving difficult to catch. I know some of you may have seen it.

The vehicle is a large red quad bike, the rider is of mixed race and in his mid twenties, he has mid length black hair and never uses a helmet. The rider takes the bike down towards the back waters running along side park farm and sandpiper drive. I came close to catching the rider near the sluice lock behind Wessex Close.

If you see this person and the quad bike I need you to report it to us. If you think you know where this man lives or the garage which the bike is stored then again let me know. If there are certain times or day you see the quad then again inform the police.

With your help we can take this vehicle from the road and ensure it causes no more problems.

ASB - Park Farm Play Park - Update - 29th April 2009

Unfortunately the stone throwing continues resulting in nearby windows and cars being hit by missiles. The Police have been advised that the problem persists and Inspector Snow and Sgt Hills have today promised even more visits by PCSO's and Operation Staysafe in the evenings. I have spoken to two groups in the park in a hope that between them peer pressure will stop the problem. It would be so sad to see them lose such a great new play area due to continued problems. Previous by PCSO Chestnutt

We have been hearing some negative reports from the park area at Park Farm next to Heritage Park School, youths have been gathering and causing residents some concern, especially in the evening when they are being loud and sometimes drinking and causing damage, we attended an incident with reference to a younger child getting treated quite badly by one of the older youths, we have been down to the park and talked to these older youths who's ages range from 12-16, I have told them that they need to let the park be used for the younger children and not to make them feel intimidated by lounging around on all the equipment.

I will be keeping an eye on this park and would appreciate residents letting me know if this problem with this park persists, we have told the youths that next time they will be 'gapped' and in extreme circumstances they will be taken home and parents will be spoke with.

We walked past on Sunday and it was lovely to see that children were using it for its correct purpose and enjoying themselves on the equipment available to them.

With our new PCSO being on the verge on being independent we will have someone up around this area more often, PCSO Craig will be taking the Heritage Park School and will be keeping an eye on the park, anytime you see him please say hello he would love to meet you, he will quite happily take any of your concerns and try and help.

Thankyou to the residents that have already brought this issue at the park to our attention, and please continue to let us know if you see or hear anything further-THANKYOU.

Regards

Motorbikes/Mini motos/Quads - PCSO Tina Griffin - 18th April 2009

Due to the recent weather we are now getting the motorbikes, mini motos, quads etc being taken out of their garages and used inappropriately causing harassment, alarm and distress to others.  I have recently had to raise three section 59's to nuisance riders.

If you are a rider of such a vehicle or are bothered by nuisance vehicles then please read the advice below.

To the owner/rider of the bike
If you ride your bike / scooter/ moped/ quad bike / motorcross bike in a public place, park or open land, you could commit one of a number of offences. This could lead to you having your bike taken off you, being banned from driving and being fined.

You may also commit the offence of causing harassment, alarm or distress under the Public Order Act. Even if you believe you have the landowners permission you and the landowner could face legal action. The consequences of your actions are

Large fine/ imprisonment
Loss of motorcycle
Loss of licence
Injury to yourself or others

If you are bothered by nuisance motorcycles can you:
Identify the culprits and owners of these motorcycles
Give as many details as you can in relation to the clothing and colour/make of the motorcycle
Give time, date and location that this problem took place

Make it YOUR business to help us fight this problem call 0845 456 456 4 and pass as much information as you can so that we can apprehend these offenders.

If you are a parent
do not buy a 'field' bike without proper proof of ownership and always remember the hidden costs;

The bike still has to be insured
Possible prosecution
Having the bike seized
Possible unlimited civil claims

Also the high chance /risk of injury to the rider when they ride on remote open land if they came off the bike could an ambulance get to them?

If you would like any further advice then please reply using the reply system or email me on tina.griffin@cambs.pnn.police.uk

An ambulance had been called to a man who had been lying in the middle of the road, but as the paramedic approached him the man jumped up and tried to grab his bag from his arm.

Increase in Motorcycle thefts - 14th January 2009

Peterborough has seen an increase in Motorbike thefts since the start of the New Year, and so far in the Southern area of Peterborough there has been 3 thefts of motorbikes.

31/12/08 to 01/01/09 Between 2015hrs and 1000hrs - Fellowes Road, Fletton - Motorbike stolen from rear of garden. Vehicle was locked with steering lock.

04/01/09 to 05/01/09 Between 1800hrs and 0900hrs -
Park Farm Crescent, Stanground - Motorbike stolen from communal car park opposite flats. Vehicle was locked and secured.

11/01/09 Between 1700hrs and 1830hrs - Driffield Way, Woodston - Motorbike stolen from driveway in front of house. Vehicle was locked using immobiliser.

Did you see any suspicious people/vehicles at these times?

If you have a motorbike parked outside your property or in a parking bay - please lock away in garage or back garden.

Remember, most bike crime can be prevented!

Don't give criminals an easy ride....

Security Tips:

- If your motorbike or scooter doesn't already have one - 'Thatcham' or 'Sold Secure' - approved electronic immobiliser professionally fitted. Try to get one which is also approved by your insurance company.

- If your bike has a high monetary or sentimental value, consider having a Thatcham Cat 5 security system professionally fitted. These systems send an alert to an control centre if your motorbike is stolen, track it and by remote operation prevent its engine once stopped being re-started.

- If you have a security device, use it and keep your keys with you when you leave your machine.

- Always put the steering lock on.

- Never leave your keys with the motorbike or scooter, even for a short time. Always keep your keys in a safe place when you are at home.

- Wherever possible use parking bays which are built especially for motorbikes and scooters and have stands or security loops for you to secure your machine to.

- When you are not using your machine - ensure you put it in your garage ( if you have one) and make sure it has good locks. If you do not have a garage, install a ground anchor.

- Get the main parts of your machine marked with the Vehicle Identification Number  ( VIN) (frame number ), registration number or some unique identifying number- ideally one that is linked to a recognised database that keeps data of Loss Prevention Council ( LPC) Standards 1224 and  1225. If you use your own markings, make sure you have a record of them.

- Take steps to defeat criminals who steal number plates by thinking about fitting theft -resistant ones that conform to the DVLA standards.

- Cover your machine if possible

- Whenever possible avoid leaving your helmet or other possessions on the motorbike or scooter in the luggage space or in panniers.

At about 2pm. 2 youths (13 - 15) were seen on quad bikes, one yellow, one blue riding along the Green Wheel and racing each other. No helmets, but one with a little black/grey bobble hat. No markers or anything on the bikes, which then rode off up Aydon Road.

The quad bikes were then seen to ride along the public foot paths and enter the childrens play park where they have proceeded to race around and tear up all the grass in the area.

Unfortunately the offenders rode off before photos could be taken. If you know them or know where they went or where the quad bikes are now please call the Police on 0845 456 456 4 or contact your street coordinator

Please call the Police immediately if you witness an offence occurring rather than wait to report it to a coordinator, that way there's a better chance of the Police catching the offender/s in the act or close by. Several residents witnessed this offence but only one reported it to the Police. If we are to get a quicker response then numbers make all the difference. Please don't delay reporting incidents or leave it to someone else to call the Police.

Alert! Distraction Burglary in Stanground - Carol Aston - 8th December 2008

Today around 2.15pm in Appleyard in Stanground male claiming to be a police officer entered a property and stole wallet from elderly resident.

The resident claimed the male had a yellow card with word 'Police' on it - quite obviously he was not a police officer.  He was wearing a dark grey anorak and claimed to be checking windows for the elderly.  It appears this male had two front teeth missing and initially knocked on window to gain the residents attention.

Please be vigilant. Report any unusual callers or suspicious incidents to the police.

ASB - Lawson Avenue Parade - PCSO Tina Griffin

Dear Members

It appears we have a re occurrence of the problems we used to have at The Parade on Lawson Avenue, with youths hanging around causing problems for the shop keepers and local residents using the shops. These youths live locally and are causing alarm, distress and harassing folk going about their daily business by gathering under the flats, entering the secured stairways to the flats above, hanging around outside the 'chippy' in large numbers, shouting, swearing, drinking and intimidating the shop keepers. A large number of these youths have already been banned from going into some the shops.

We are therefore monitoring these youths closely and the local policing team will be taking positive action towards these youths. Letters are being sent home and parents visited. If any crimes are being committed then arrests will be performed. We are asking residents to report any incidents in to the Force Control Room 0845 456 4564 of ASB/ Criminal Damage in this area and also at the skate park/ Stanground Community Centre car park so that we can conduct out patrols effectively and make these areas safe from these youths.

If you would like to hear any further information then you can contact me via my email address of tina.griffin@cambs.pnn.police.uk

Many thanks for your support

Underage Drinking - Childrens Play Park - 13th September 2008

The street patrols have reported finding empty tins and bottles of alcohol in the childrens play park. This was a major cause of the intolerable amount of anti social behaviour we were suffering a couple of years ago and we need to stop this before it once again gets out of hand. Predictably the bottles always end up being smashed around the seating area leaving a danger to the children using the park.

If you see youths drinking in the park and causing a nuisance please ring the police on 0845 456 456 4.

Alert! Reports of Prowlers & Burglaries in Park Farm - 30th March 2008

Don't make it easy
We've had reports by members of prowlers being spotted in gardens, gates being found open in the morning and burglaries over the weekend particularly in Framlingham Road and Eynesford Close but no information has yet been confirmed by the police of exactly what has been reported.

If you've been affected even if nothing appears to have been taken, please report the matter to the Police on 0845 456 4564

Please be vigilant and revisit your security arrangements as a matter of urgency. Speak to your neighbours particularly if they are old, infirm or disabled and let them know.

Try to see the keys to your house or car from any window or through your letterbox. If you can see them so can a burglar. Consider getting a bolt and padlock fitted on your gate and shed door and the purchase of a shed and/or garage door alarm from your local DIY store. It is usually during Spring that shed burglaries increase. Make sure your bins are only put out for the minimum time needed. Wheelie bins are commonly used to gain access over fences and gates.

Ensure you lock your car at night, attach any anti theft device, switch on the alarm and take out all valuables. Don't make it easy for crooks to get their reward.

If you spot anyone or any vehicle acting suspiciously call the Police immediately on

Over the last two nights we have had a spate of cycle thefts in the Park Farm area and central Stanground area. These are top of the range BMX bikes. Please therefore ensure your bikes are locked up and secure or bought inside your home as the offenders are carrying equipment to break into sheds /garages and cut bikes free.

Over the easter holidays with the youths out and about on their bikes it is easy for thieves to target addresses so please add extra security.

Talk with your sons and daughters about their personal safety and the safety of their property.

Unwanted Callers - PCSO Jaroslav Marek - 21st February 2008

Hello,

My parents who live in Orton Waterville have just told me this story. Last week a young man came to their door with a holdall selling tea towels etc. He appeared to have a speech impediment or put one on. He talked decently to them, when my parents said that they did not want anything, he said that their neighbour, and gave correct name, said they would buy something, then asked them for some money. They told him no and he left. the next day it transpired that he then went to the next house and he told the lady there ,that my parents had given him £10 to help him and asked her for the same. She then gave him £2. He asked for the name of person in the bungalow opposite, to which it was given. He then went to that persons house, a lady in a wheelchair. When she opened the door, he pushed past her, saying hello (using her name) and sat on her couch. He then asked her for £90. She apparently did not give him anything and he left. Apart from my parents these are all elderly ladies on their own. They were all frightened to involve the police in case this person came back. They, and my parents, have all had many negative things happening to them over the last 2 years, in their own homes, with 'people?' preying on elderly, infirm and living on their own. This incident happened in Valance Road / Church Drive. If they had told me sooner I would have reported it straight away. Please can you make residents aware - thank you

This was received by us from a local resident. Should you have had recent similar experiences can you please contact our force control room and give the details - 0845 456 456 4

Alert! Bogus Caller - PCSO Tracey Chestnutt - 12th February 2008

PCSO Tracey Chestnutt

Bogus caller in your area, there had been a report of a suspicious male, white male, 25-30 years old, dark zip up jacket(waterproof fabric), dark trousers, dark medium length hair, carrying mobile phone, he is posing that he is from Tree Care-working for the Council, he tells residents he has received complaints about their trees and says he has come to cut them down.

Please residents if you come across this male let us know, if anyone official comes to your door please use your chains and do not them enter your property, they should have identification and they will not be offended if you ask for it, this only proves that they are genuine.

Normal procedure would be that a letter would be sent out first to make you aware of an issue and to arrange a convent time to call, these companies will not just show up, unless on a very rare occasion that there is an emergency situation and then this is the time to ask for identification.

So please if you have the slightest doubt that any person at your door is not genuine then please do not let them into your home, please let us know as soon as possible.

If you have any issues or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.

Criminal Damage and ASB - Stanground - PCSO Tracey Chestnutt - 9th February 2008

PCSO Tracey Chestnutt

I would like to bring to all your attention that I have had reports of Criminal Damage and Antisocial Behaviour in around the Ayres Drive area of Stanground, mindless damage to residents walls and their property is on the increase.

We have a high population of elderly that reside in these roads and the damage is very upsetting for them, they take pride in their gardens and walls and find it very distressing when damage occurs,

Also there has been another issue which has appeared, children have been reported to be pushing over wheelie bins deliberately to intimidate these elderly residents, when they come out of their house to pick the bins up or to challenge them to why this has happened, all they receive is abuse and some very rude hand signals, this is unacceptable behaviour from these children and I plan to find out who they are and give them suitable words of advice.

If anyone has any information with reference to these problems then please could you contact me and if there are any other issues you want to discuss with me then please let me know.

A number of Anglia Water uniforms have been stolen form the Market Harborough/Northamptonshire area.

Reports of Mini Motos - What you can do? - 5th August 07

Inevitably mini motos and illegal off road motorcycles are appearing again around the Green Wheel and Lake areas. Some very near misses have been reported therefore our advice is to refer back to the successes we had last year when dealing with this problem which resulted in several offenders being warned or reported for prosecution.

Most of you carry a mobile phone with a camera facility or have access to a camera or camcorder. Use these to gather evidence and then contact the police taking note of the times, dates and descriptions of the offenders and the vehicles involved.

The word soon got round last year that NHW members were taking photographs of offenders resulting in a definite reduction in incidents.

Take note of the times, dates and descriptions of the offenders and the vehicles involved. Don't just accept it. Please help us and the police do something about it.

You can be assured that we will always provide our full help and support to those who need it but the responsibility to show the 'Neighbourly' part of being a NHW member is now, rather than relying on others to do it for you. The police and coordinators can't be there all the time waiting to catch them. If you need help or wish to offer yours just call.

More Criminal Damage Reports Overnight - 4th August 07

More reports of several cars being scratched and badges ripped off have come now come in from the Belton Road area. Most probably linked to the school windows being smashed last night.

Any information should be passed to the police. Anyone wishing to help stop this petty but very annoying crime by becoming more involved and offering real neighbourly commitment should contact Chris on 07939 66488. The police and patrols can't be on the estate at all times so it really is down to you the residents to show that you are not prepared to accept it. Over to you!

Windows Smashed at School + Groups hanging around into the early hours - 4th August 07

Overnight 3 windows have been smashed in the small hall at Heritage Park School. These windows are armoured and therefore will be very expensive for the school to replace. We the tax payers will foot the bill eventually but initially the funds have to be found from the schools budget. Less therefore for the children.

We've also received reports that groups of youths have been hanging about again particularly at weekends causing a noise nuisance and now criminal damage. The patrols report generally that groups have been more active now the school holidays are here but that the area has been generally quiet most nights into the early hours. It would appear that the problems are occurring after the patrols are finished well into the early hours (1am - 3am) and not every weekend. The police have been made aware of the increase.

We can only urge everyone to be vigilant and not wait for others to call the police to report such gatherings where they cause concern.

Our street patrol volunteers currently cover days and nights into the early hours but if members wish to see patrols out and about between 1am and 4am then we will need to see some real commitment and volunteers for this time. This is your decision. Quite simply , if there are no volunteers then it wont happen.

Anyone with any information regarding the school windows being smashed should contact the police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers or of course your street coordinator in confidence.

Distraction Burglary Alert - Carol Aston - 24th July 07
A series of distraction burglaries were reported to the police yesterday - two were in March, one in Thorney, one in Whittlesey, one in Little Paxton.

Three of these were water related, the one in Little Paxton told occupants that their neighbours had been flooded.

With the flood alert state in operation all NHW members should be aware that distraction burglars may well use a story in connection with flooding or moving of items to prevent damage such as washing machines and dishwashers.

Please pass on this warning to your friends and relatives - if anyone has any information or suspects these individuals may have been in their area they should ring the Police on 0845 456 456 4 to report it.

Please keep your eyes open for suspicious vehicles in your area - any information you can report to the police regarding registration numbers and descriptions of individuals is really useful.

Terror Alert Update - Appeal for Vigilance - 4th July 07

Police have stepped up security in Cambridgeshire in the wake of terrorism incidents in London and Scotland. Deputy Chief Constable John Feavyour has invoked powers under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act which allow officers to stop and search anyone if they have concerns or suspicion.

DCC Feavyour said: “We’ve introduced this power to ensure we have the appropriate ability to help protect and reassure people in Cambridgeshire. There is no specific evidence of a threat here, however we are increasing patrols and visibility and there are occasions where these powers will be necessary. We will of course ensure that we operate with sensitivity. I'm confident that all the communities we serve will understand the need for this measure and will support our work to protect the public.”

Armed officers will be more in evidence at key locations around the county and traffic officers are likely to use the power to stop drivers or pedestrians and search them and their vehicles. Officers acting under Section 44 are given broad discretion to search

We are asking members of all Watch Schemes in the county to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity they see or hear.

DCC John Feavyour said: “Our top priority is to protect the public. Above all we need people in Cambridgeshire to remain alert and aware. If people have any immediate concern or urgent information they should call 999. Otherwise call the anti-terror hotline on 0800 789 321."

Original posting 2/7

Cambridgeshire Police appeal for the public to be extra vigilant following the finding of the car-bombs in London and Glasgow.

"There is nothing to suggest any connection with Cambridgeshire," said Assistant Chief Constable, Mark Hopkins. "But it is important that members of the public remain vigilant and report any unusual packages, vehicles or activity in their communities or elsewhere. There is no need for alarm, but we would ask people to take the commonsense precautions to be expected in these situations."

Any suspicions should be reported to the anti-terrorist hotline number, 0800 789 321 or to Cambridgeshire police 0845 456 4564.

Police Information - Mass Burglaries - 30th May 07

Concerns have been coming in from members over reports of mass burglaries in Park Farm particularly around the Belton Road area. PC Duce has been contacted today for confirmation and has advised as follows:

Further to the post below concerning creeper burglaries which have occurred recently in Stanground muddy footprints were found in the back garden of a property in Kedleston Road yesterday which is being treated as an attempted burglary although no forced entry was evident.

A spate of snatch burglaries has however taken place close by in other areas of Stanground, Fletton and Woodston and insecure cycles have been stolen from unlocked sheds and outbuildings in Belton Road and Beeston Drive.

The offender is described as White Male of about 30 years, Dirty Appearance, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, jet black hair wearing a brown jacket which is torn on the right shoulder.

These burglaries are happening at all different times of the day or night.

If you see anyone matching the description above or acting at all suspiciously day or night call the police on 999 without hesitation.

Although the rumours are therefore misleading concerning mass burglaries in Park Farm they are occurring close by and this would be a prudent time to recheck your own security measures including security lighting and alarms as a precaution. Please also look in on any neighbours who are disabled or infirm who may benefit from some help or advice.

Ensure your property is security marked and we again urge all residents to consider purchasing the latest Smartwater DNA property marking deterrent.

Putting your waste bins out the night before should be avoided wherever possible as these are regularly used by burglars as a climbing aid to get over walls and fences in order to gain access to back gardens. Please if you can, leave it until the early morning on the collection day to put them out and then ensure they are put away as soon as possible later in the day.

Please be a good neighbour and put out and return your neighbours bins if they are on holiday.

Police Alert - Chrissie Bridge - 24th May 07

A series of night time creeper burglaries has emerged in Stanground. Since 12th April there have been nine burglaries mainly in locations that are situated adjacent to the River Nene and at dwellings where the doors or windows have been left insecure. The peak time for these offences is between midnight and three in the morning.

The offender is a male who has been seen dressed in a blue hoody, tracksuit bottoms and a baseball cap. It is believed he is a smoker, as cigarettes were stolen from one of the houses. He may have links to the Welland area, which is the location that one of the stolen vehicles was found and he may associate with a larger group of males.

The target property includes vehicles as well as mobile phones, laptop computers, cameras, cash, passports, ID cards, driving licences and pedal cycles. The vehicles are being used by the offender and possibly his associates after the offence, prior to being abandoned whereas the other stolen property is likely to be sold for cash.

Although at this time of the year it is very tempting to leave the door or window open, please think again. Most windows these days can be left slightly ajar but still locked. Never leave a ground floor window open. Always lock your doors whether you are in the house, in the garden or away from the property.

Vigilance & Speed...Its what NHW is all about! - 22nd April 07

Last night a NHW member heard banging noises coming from the rear of the school.

Rather than ignore it, wait to see what happened or leave it to someone else to report it he was straight on the phone to the Police.

PC Duce was patrolling the area and was at the school within 30 seconds. Our member then phoned Ben on his mobile and directed him to the area where two youths were seen to be running. Ben successfully collared the youths while attempting to leave the school grounds.

Well done Mr M for your efforts. You chose not to accept crime on our estate and to act rather than ignore the situation. This is what NHW is all about. Not accepting crime and anti social behaviour on our estate but protecting it by calling the Police without delay.

If it doesn't seem right. Don't wait.......Call the Police.

Dangerous Dog Incident - Park Farm Way - Good Friday 6th April 07

A pit bull or staffie breed of dog was loose in Park Farm following children around the area for a few hours without being reported.

Tragically the dog then caught and killed a local residents cat in Park Farm Way. Several people watched the attack helpless and in distress, afraid to intervene in case the dog turned on them.

Police were called and removed the dog (no collar) to Thorpe Wood. They have advised that if the dog, which appeared quite juvenile, is chipped then the owners will be prosecuted for allowing it to be out.

Sadly one of our members had the unfortunate task of picking up the remains of the cat so the owners children didn't see it. This could well have been a young child!

Please, Please advise children of the dangers of stray dogs and that they should report them as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you have any information as to who is the owner of this dog please call the police on 0845 456 456 4 or contact your coordinator.

Dogs - The Law

  • A dog is not allowed to bite. Not even once! So the very first time that a dog acts dangerously could end up in a Court.
  • Generally a dog is regarded as not being under proper control if it is neither on a lead nor muzzled.
  • Control of Dogs Order 1992

This requires that every dog, while in a public place, wears a collar with the name and address of his owner inscribed on it or on a disc attached to it. If a collar is not worn when out in a public place, the dog may be seized by the police and treated as a stray. Also the owner, and any person in charge of the dog permitting him to be in a public place without a collar, will each be guilty of an offence and may be prosecuted and fined.

If your dog does stray, you should immediately contact your local dog warden (through the Environmental Health Department at your local council) and the local police station. The Environmental Protection Act 1990 allows for your dog to be seized and sold or destroyed if unclaimed after a seven day period.

  • Town Police Clauses Act 1847

These Acts make it an offence to allow an unmuzzled, ferocious dog to be left at large, or for a person to set on or to urge any dog attack, worry or put in fear any person or animal in the street.

  • Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) 1991

There are two main sections to this Act.

Section 1 applies to four specific breeds of dog including ‘the type of dog known as the pit bull terrier’. Owners of these breeds had to comply with certain legal requirements, including having their dog registered, neutered, microchipped and tattooed.

Section 3 applies to all dogs, making it a criminal offence to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place. This includes instances where there is fear that an injury might occur.

Owners found guilty under either section of the Act could have their dog destroyed, face the possibility of six months in prison and/or a fine not exceeding level 5 (at present up to £5,000).

  • Dogs Act 1871

Under this Act, a court may, upon complaint that a dog is dangerous and not kept under proper control, order the owner to keep him under proper control or to be destroyed.

  • Road Traffic Act 1988

This makes it an offence to have a dog on a designated road without the dog being held on a lead.

BB Guns are fast becoming the latest 'must have' toy but Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 it is an arrestable offence to carry an imitation firearm in a public place without permission, whether or not it is capable of discharging a shot or a bullet. Carrying an air weapon in public, loaded or not, is also an offence. The maximum penalty is six months imprisonment.

The moped tends to be heard in and around the Southfield Avenue area and particularly at the rear of the Stanground Community Centre at the skatepark. I have also received reports of this kind of activity on the green wheel at the rear of the Park Farm area.

So please continue to call in regarding these incidents as the more information we can gather, the greater the chance we have of catching them in use.

NHW - Burglary - Stanground - Chrissie Bridge. 2nd Jan 2007
A neighbour had been looking after some pets at a property in Southfields Avenue whilst the owner was away. At approx 2200hrs on the 27th December, the neighbour spotted a male approx 70m away from the house with 3 bikes and found a gate leading to the rear garden open. On putting the key in the lock, 2 males ran down the alley past him and onto the street heading towards St Georges Avenue direction. The neighbour could hear more in the house and saw 3 other males appear from the front gardens of other houses further along the street - they also ran off in the same direction. A ladder which had been stored insecure on the flat roof of the property had been used in order to climb up and force the rear bedroom window open.

May I take this opportunity to remind everyone to check the security of your ladders, whether they are outside or even in a shed/garage please ensure they are locked securely.

Alert! Suspicious Vehicle - Park Farm - PFNHW member - 14th Dec 2006

Dear Chris

I have just posted a card at an address in Peckover Close. Walking from Portchester Close I saw a

Silver Mondeo, S328 KLM, white male, glasses, 30's white shirt and dark tie, clean shaven, dark hair - not black.

He was driving slowly down Framlingham Road, then went into the first road on the left, then into Peckover Close, then further down Framlingham. I posted my card and then he passed us going slowly up Framlingham Road. We lost sight of him then, but as I was walking along Portchester Close, he came out of Houghton Avenue, turned left towards the end of
Portchester Close, continued to the end and then turned round and went back to Park Farm Way. At the end of Portchester he turned left.

He seemed to be dressed like a normal business man but at this time of the evening (4.30pm) a lot of houses had lights on with curtains undrawn so he would be able to see inside very easily. He wasn't looking at a map or directions, so he didn't look lost.

It just seemed suspicious so I thought I would let you know.

Chrissie Bridge 15th Dec 2006

I have been contacted by one of my members regarding a vehicle acting suspiciously in the Portchester Close/Framlingham Road/Peckover Close and Houghton Avenue area. At approx 1630hrs last night, a Ford Mondeo Verona colour silver index number S328KLM was seen driving slowly around these estates. The driver has been described as a white male in his thirties wearing glasses, white shirt and dark tie.

He was clean shaven and had dark hair. It may be something or nothing, but worth keeping a watch out for.

We have also been advised by our colleagues in the Central Division that they have had some rogue traders knocking on doors. White male, approx 5ft 10ins, early 20's wearing yellow fluorescent jacket has been calling at addresses trying to get people to "Sponsor a Dog".  Although this male left quietly when occupants refused we believe this was likely to have been a fraudulent attempt to persuade the occupants to let him in, in order to explore the house. Apparently, this male had called earlier in the day to a different location and this time he was accompanied by a small lady (about 5ft 2in) carrying a clipboard.   No IDs were offered. Again the message was "Please sponsor a Dog" adding that no cash was required right away but if bank details could be provided a regular monthly sum could be contributed.

Update Burglaries - Framlingham Road - Chrissie Bridge - 14th Dec 2006
Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in alerting you to these two incidents in Framlingham Road, this has been due to the Neighbourhood Action Days which have taken place in Riseholme, Brudenell and Hinchcliffe, Orton Goldhay over the last two days - of which I have been involved.

There have been two incidents to report in Framlingham Road, both occurring on the 11th December.
At approx 1754hrs we received a call from a neighbour stating that approx 8 kids were breaking into an empty house. These kids were described as aged between 14-18yrs. On arrival of Officers a group of youths have been spoken to and details obtained. It would appear the garage door has been forced off its runners, however no permanent damage.

Then, at approx 2026hrs we received another call reporting a garage burglary. The suspects have caused criminal damage to the patio doors at the rear of the property. The damage was caused by ramming a large wooden stake from a 'For Sale' sign in between the centre part of the french doors. This has been done more than once as the plastic has been broken in more than one place. The stake has then been forced into the frame and the lock has been levered apart. No entry has been gained to the main house in anyway. A window frame has also been damaged.
A gents Red and White Honda Mountain cycle with red forks and a white frame with red stickers thereon and a ladies Silver Mountain cycle with a moulded child seat with yellow foot straps have been stolen.

If you have any information regarding these or any other crimes, please contact the Police on 0845 456 4564.

Alert! Update Daytime Burglaries - Framlingham Road - 12th Dec 2006

Luckily the locks held true although the doors have been very badly damaged.

The garage was entered and two mountain bikes stolen. One of the bikes is worth £1000 and is very rare and distinctive.

Fly-tipping Update - Appeal for Information - 27th November 2006

The dumped material was kindly removed by PCC today. The more of this type of work PCC do the more our council tax bills rise each year so we need to send out a straight forward message that flytipping is not tolerated on Park Farm. PCC still wish to pursue a conviction for this or any other incident involving fly tipping so please get in touch below if you have any information that can help.

Park Farm NHW - we're doing it!

Original Posting Detail - 26th November 2006

Sadly, some extremely selfish person/s without any regard for the environment, the ambience of the area or indeed their community have dumped a complete wall unit on common ground to the rear of Belsay Drive near the childrens play park.

The offence occurred last night 25/11 between 17.00 and 22.00 hrs being found by our street patrol team.

Do you recognise the wall unit and know its previous owners?

We have had one address put forward but more info is requested if we are to help with any prosecution.

The local residents are quite rightly very angry at this act of anti social behaviour considering the efforts, particularly of late, by the litter teams and we appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact the Environmental Enforcement Officer - Gavin Wade on 01733 747474

A fly-tipping report (PCC415) has been filed this morning to get the removal process started and Gavin will be investigating the offence.

Southern Sector - Increase in shed burglaries - Chrissie Bridge - 20th Nov 2006
We have noticed an increase in Shed Burglaries across the Southern Sector.
Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to remind everyone regarding the security of their sheds.

Try to think like a burglar and see if you can work out how you would get into your own property, for example, if you lost your key. This will help you to identify weak points and which areas need attention.

Without realising it, you probably have a lot of valuable property in your sheds and outbuildings and you don't pay as much attention to security as you should. Power tools, lawnmowers, cycles, golf clubs etc are all expensive to replace and attractive to thieves.

Shed doors are notoriously easy to get into, so strengthen the door and frame if you can. Outside door hinges should be secured with coach bolts or similar. Use strong padbars and close shackle padlocks.

Windows are obviously a weak point in sheds and outhouses, if you do have an opening you can buy window locks to make these more secure. Fitting wire mesh on the inside of the window will also make it more secure. Curtains could be used to deter prying eyes.

Use an alarm - battery operated alarms may act as a deterrent. If you have a house alarm, you could have it upgraded to include your shed or garage.

Check what you keep in the shed. Does your insurance cover the shed and garage and all the equipment you store? Is everything post-coded so that you could identify it if it was stolen? Do you have a note of serial numbers? Do you secure property within the shed so that even if someone did break in, they would not just be able to walk off with all your valuable items. NEVER leave cycles unlocked and always keep a record of the Make, Model, Serial number, colour, frame number, serial number and any special features. Is your cycle post-coded? If not, speak to your local PCSO.

For further crime prevention advice or material contact the Community Safety Team at Bridge Street Station on 0845 456 4564.

Dwelling Burglary Arrest - Chrissie Bridge - 13th Nov 2006
You will be pleased to hear that not one but two well known local burglars have been arrested.
Initially the occupants of a house in Orton Malborne returned home yesterday afternoon/evening to find they had been broken into. However, a short time later whilst the occupants were upstairs the offenders had the audacity to return !! The occupants remained silent and contacted the Police to report a burglary in progress. Local Officers along with the Dog Handler and Traffic quickly arrived at the scene just in time to see one of the offenders leaving the scene on a pedal cycle. PC Bridge gave chase on foot giving a running commentary to his colleagues enabling the Traffic Officers to make an arrest. The second offender was then spotted by PCSO Scott so he too was duly arrested. One of the offenders had some property in his possession which is believed to be stolen goods albeit not from this burglary. This particular burglary may have been prevented as the neighbours admit to hearing a loud bang and breaking glass but did not report it.
There was also another evening burglary the night before which had the same MO.

This is an ideal opportunity to remind everyone that now the winter evenings are drawing in and we are all stocking up ready for Christmas - please remember to leave lights on timers and perhaps the TV or radio playing. With the curtains closed the house will then appear occupied.
One of my NHW members even suggested disconnecting the door bell when you are out or away.

If you hear any unusual noises or witness anything suspicious/untoward, please ring the Police - it's better to be safe than sorry !

Appeal for Information - Ben Duce - 7th November 2006

Once again I am asking for your help.

There has been some criminal damage predominantly around Shamrock Close area. Plant pots have been tipped over, slabs along the tops of walls have been pushed off. A small minority of mindless people are making life a misery for some of the elderly folk around the area. I want to eradicate this behaviour and sooner rather than later. If you cast your minds back I had a great response from residents in the same area when there was a similar series of incidents involving criminal damage, walls and fences being damaged. I don't think that it is the same group, however I do have my suspicions. If you have any idea who the offenders are please call or e-mail me, or of course Tina or Stewart. I only need one name, from that I can normally get the rest.

Also anti social behaviour around the area of Wright Avenue, Rayner Avenue, Allen Avenue and the green area opposite the BP garage on Whittlesey Road. This is in the main youths over the weekends acquiring alcohol and then making life a misery for the residents because they are drunk. I have my suspicions that they may be Stanground College students as some warnings were issued by residents and it has eased slightly. If you know who these nuisances are then call us and let us know.

School Safety Message - PCSO Stuart Smith - 18th Oct 2006
When we talk of school safety, we do not just mean how safe our little ones are when through the school gates each morning. It includes the journey to and from school and also about dropping them off. I am getting increasing reports of concern from members of the public, about the manner in which, people are parking illegally on zebra or pelican crossings, on double yellow lines or sometimes double parking next to a vehicle already committing these offences, in order to drop off or pick up children from the school gates.

The double yellow lines are there for a reason, and parking or stopping on these could see you with a penalty notice for £60.00. Also we have all noticed the 'zig zag' lines leading up to and immediately after a pelican or zebra crossing. These are in place to stop anyone parking or waiting on the approach or exit from the crossing as it prevents people that are using the crossing from getting a full view of the traffic on the road. Now along with a £60.00 penalty notice, some people maybe surprised to learn, that you are also liable to 3 penalty points on your driving licence. It is a very serious matter and this type of illegal parking is putting children's lives in danger. There are also alarming reports of parents letting children out of vehicles directly into the road where traffic is flowing freely, or watching them crossing the road between parked cars.

These are your children that are being put at risk, so I ask parents to please be aware of the dangers and to think when they are doing the daily school run.

I will be out and about in the coming weeks checking further on these reports and if I do not see any improvement, tickets and penalty points will start to be issued for the offences.

Make it Tough! Remove Your Stuff! - Vehicle Crime Advice, Chrissie Bridge.
Last Thursday PCSO Sallie Lunness, PCSO Paul Spencer and myself took a walk around the car parks surrounding the Orton Centre. The aim of this was to identify vehicles with property on display which acts as an invite to thieves. This property includes CD's, cigarette cartons, loose change, bags, and coats to name but a few. These may seem inexpensive items to you but to a thief it is easy money.

Also the "pop off" fascia stereos that still had the fascia on! In total we discovered 138 cars that were vulnerable. We noted the registration numbers and these will be forwarded to DVLA who will send a warning letter out to the owner.

Vehicle crime in Peterborough as a whole has risen recently mainly in theft from as opposed to theft of. By hiding property you reduce the temptation which will make you a victim.

Also many people with phones, sat nav and laptops just hide them in glove boxes, boots or underseat storage. Thieves can detect these devices via the technology called "bluetooth" which is basically wireless connectivity between two or more enabled devices that has a range of about ten metres.

They can walk around a car park with a device searching for bluetooth equipment and when close enough it will detect and enable them to attack the vehicle and steal it. If you do leave such items in your car ensure the bluetooth is turned off and the item is powered down.

Numerous owners had placed objects in the boot however, had then left the back seat down leaving the property on view. We also noticed several vehicles with the sunroofs left on tilt, this is the same entrance availability as an open window for a thief.

Finally several vehicles had "steering lock" devices inside but unfortunately they had been left on the floor and not secured to the vehicle. Not a very good deterrent and a terrible waste of money I think you will all agree.

This is not just occurring in and around Orton, so please take note of these suggestions.

UPDATE - Together we can put a stop to this NOW! - 23rd October 2006

Further update from Ben Duce via e-cops - 27th Oct 2006.
Once again another good result from good collaboration between the local community and ourselves. There have been numerous incidents over the past weeks of children running around the estate throwing eggs and fruit at peoples houses. Not only does it make a mess, it had also become very annoying to the victims concerned, who I hasten to add were in the main random.
Photographic evidence given to the police led to identification of all the offenders, six in total. They have all been advised in front of their parents that their behaviour will not be tolerated, letters will also be sent to the parents confirming our dissatisfaction of their children's actions.
Once again thanks to all of those residents that assisted me in resolving this issue. If it continues please let Tina, Stuart or myself know and this time we will tackle it in a more formal manner.

Great News!

After receiving photographic evidence, information and descriptions from our members PC Duce has this evening (23rd) managed to detain 5 of the fruit & egg throwing offenders.

Let’s hope that this silly behaviour is now at an end.

Ben will update by ECOPS soon.

Well done everyone. The descriptions, excellent use of technology and good police work has resulted in several youths being detained over the last couple of days for various offences. We'll let you know more as it happens.

PREVIOUS APPEAL

Of late many residents have been experiencing anti social behaviour in the form of youngsters throwing fruit and eggs at their houses.

Today, yet another report has come in from Kedleston Road. Members have also been affected in Portchester Close, Park Farm Way and Belsay Drive.

We must work together and show that this behaviour is out of order and will not be tolerated. We need your help with information in the form of names, addresses and/or best of all, photographic or video evidence.

Latest information from Kedleston is a group of youths running off into Brodsworth Road (10 -12 years of age).

On Sunday the following descriptions were passed to us. One male youth (12 -15 yrs) wears a baseball cap. (We think we may know who this is now) and a female with long brown hair with a fringe riding a bicycle.

Please be vigilant and report any information to PC Duce or your street coordinator or call 07939 664788.

Together we will crack this annoying problem.

Identification Appeal - PC Ben Duce - 14th October 2006

I now have photographic evidence of the youths throwing eggs and apples at houses in Park Farm and will be taking steps to catch up with them in the very near future. If anyone can assist and point me in the direction of a male, about 12-15 years old, slim build, at the time he was caught on camera he was wearing a white tracksuit with dark coloured sleeves.

Arrest Update - PC Ben Duce - 14th October 2006

We have managed to arrest a male in relation to the recent series of burglaries in Stanground, once again information from the community has pointed us in the right direction with a positive result.

I have managed to locate one of the motor bike owners that have been racing up and down the path next to the river over the past few weeks, once again, liaison between residents and myself have enabled me to locate and deal with the offender. There are still a few people who want to ride around the area illegally though.

Thanks for all the help so far and of course for any that I may receive in the future.

Cannabis 'CRACK DOWN' - 11 October 2006

A CRACK DOWN on cannabis factories in the county has netted around £2.7 million worth of the drug.

Operation Keymer, led by the Force's serious and organised crime unit, was part of a national crack down on those involved in cannabis factories, running between Monday September 25 and Friday October 6. During the two week campaign officers issued nine warrants at homes in the county, arresting 12 people and seizing over 4500 cannabis plants.

DCI Paul Fullwood, who ran the operation, said: "The operation has proved a great success, with Cambridgeshire one of the leading forces involved in the crackdown. "Through dedicating times and resources to the issue we have been able to severely disrupt the activities of those involved in cannabis factories. "To have taken £2.7 million worth of cannabis off the streets is a great result for us.

"However this operation was never about cannabis alone. Those involved in masterminding its cultivation are serious and organised criminals, often involved in criminality such as people trafficking, kidnap and murder. "By disrupting their activities we hope to learn more about the other strands of crime involved in this network."

This is not the force's first success with combating cannabis factories. Since July the serious and organised crime unit has led raids and closed down ten cannabis factories in the county - seven in Peterborough, two in Huntingdonshire and Fenland and one in Cambridge.

DCI Fullwood added: "This is not the end of our work to target those involved in cannabis factories. During recent years we have seen the number of cannabis factories operating within the county rise dramatically and therefore our work will continue.

"I am positive there are still cannabis factories operating within the county that we may not yet be aware of. "These factories are usually set up in residential areas and from the outside look like perfectly ordinary homes. I would therefore urge the public to continue to be vigilant to activities in their neighbourhood, such as:

Curtains being constantly closed.

A lot of noise when someone moves into a property but afterwards no-one seems to be living there.

There are strange smells.

Paper or plastic is put outside the windows.

There is excess heat.

There is condensation.

Anyone with information about cannabis factories should contact police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Cannabis - THE RISKS

The majority of the cannabis seized by police is known as skunk, which is extremely strong and dangerous.

On average the THC (tetrahydrocannabrid) content of skunk is 12%, whereas resin and herbal cannabis is around 3%.

Regular cannabis use can lead to health problems, affecting both physical and mental health. Physical health issues include respiratory conditions due to smoking and increased risk of accidents both on and off the roads.

Mental health problems can range from lack of concentration and fatigue through to the early onset of episodes of psychosis in those people who have a predisposition towards mental illness.

The cultivation of cannabis in residential area also causes a significant risk to the public. Every year cannabis factories cause over 100 fires.

Cannabis factories require a large supply of electricity. The meter is usually bypassed, creating a risk of fire and electrocution.

Fundraising Scam for K.I.N.D. - 9th October 2006
Police were alerted on Friday when a member of public brought in two glossy posters and a printed sheet purporting to be from KIND (Kids in Need of Dreams) - the accompanying posters state that the organisation is raising funds to take terminally ill children to Disney in Orlando to swim with dolphins - the accompanying letter asks that a local raffle/campaign be organised with a prize of a donated holiday for two including flights.

Bank details are included in order that funds can be deposited to them!!

You should also be aware that no charity registration number appears anywhere on this literature.

However, checks with the real charity have shown that this promotion is nothing to do with them. They have asked that should any companies/individuals wish to help their charity fundraising, their website address is www.kind.org.uk and there are facilities to donate online.

Information Update from PC Ben Duce - 6th October 2006

Still having a few problems with mini motos and motor cycles in and around the area. I have my suspicions as to who they are and will be making enquiries in the near future. Up to now we have had some excellent results with regards to evidence in the form of photos and with that evidence some good results.

One in particular being a male photographed by a Park Farm NHW Scheme member, summoned to court, received a £180.00 fine and disqualified from driving.

Without your help it is very difficult for us to arrest and subsequently the courts convict. This single incident proves that as a community and working with us we can achieve some excellent results. As I said in my first e-cops news letter, you assist me in getting evidence and I will do the rest.

Kids have been causing problems around Park Farm throwing eggs and fruit. We do have good photographic evidence of two youths throwing eggs again taken by a Park Farm NHW Scheme member. One of them was wearing a white tracksuit with dark sleeves.

If anybody knows who he is please either e-mail me or call the usual number. Better still if you know it is you that I am talking about then call me and we can get this issue resolved in a civilised manner.

Any other issues that you would like to discuss with either myself or PCSO Tina Griffin please call or e-mail. We are here to help.

Please be aware that sometimes we will not reply if it is simply information you want to pass inwards for our attention. Even if you don't hear from us directly then please be assured that everything you send us will be actioned or reviewed.

If the matter is more urgent or of a general nature then I would urge you to ring 0845 456 4564 and you will then be able to get quicker attention. If an event is in progress or very urgent call 999. If you need to report a crime then please call 0845 456 4564. I would urge residents to report all crimes however trivial so we get a good idea of where the problems are.

A night of trouble on Park Farm - 16/17 September 2006
Police Incident number 226/170906

Sadly on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning Park Farm was targeted by a group of yobs intent on disturbing the peace, theft, criminal damage and vandalism.

Witnesses described the initial group to be up to 20 in number descending into the area from the Whittlesey Road direction.

Two cars were also reported to have stopped in Park Farm Crescent with the group. One believed to be a Dark Blue or Black Mercedes 'A' Class.

Reported incidents were as follows:

  • The nursery had a large plastic dolls house and other play equipment stolen from the rear play area. The dolls house was found to have been smashed up and set on fire in the childrens park. Other items were found broken and strewn all over the nursery car park.
  • Although the roof is being replaced today (18th) after our appeal to EDF to repair it, many of the roof tiles on the electricity substation were removed and left smashed in the nursery car park.
  • A member in Kedleston Road reported to us in confidence that on Sunday morning he found his side gate propped open and his shed door ajar. Luckily there was nothing of value in the shed to steal.
  • Graffiti attacks throughout the area.

We appeal to anyone who may have any information, no matter how small, to please contact the police on 0845 456 4564 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or any street coordinator in confidence and quote the police incident number shown above.

Only working together will we beat this and bring those guilty of such appalling behaviour before the courts.

Several pictures were taken of those damaging the substation roof and these have been sent to PC Duce. Hopefully this will also identify some of the culprits.

Gents Blue/Grey - Scott Sub30 Hybrid Style Cycle between 23.58 12/8 & 02.00 13/8.
Vehicle Damage - Church Street - Stanground

There appears to be a pattern happening with vehicle damage to cars parked in Church Street, Stanground. When the Polish Club has an overspill from its car park their members are parking in Church Street and the local residents are having to park their cars out of their usual spot outside their homes and across the road near to the bus like shelter. When this happens vehicles are having acid or paint stripper poured over their cars overnight. This is causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

We as of yet have limited intelligence as to who could be doing this so I ask you to keep an eye out when in the area for anyone acting suspiciously in the area when cars are parked near to this location (bus type shelter.)

If you should have any information please will you ring into the control room on 0845 456 456 4 or leave a message on my work phone 07736086899 as I am keen to find out who is doing this.

Where are your teenagers?

Last night I attended an incident with a Orton officer to a report of a group of youths being rowdy and drinking alcohol under the Black Bridge near Riversidemead, Stanground. Thanks to my colleague putting this
newsletter out to all those recipients in the Orton area my job has been made easier to cut and paste this to the rest of the sector!

Upon our arrival we were confronted by about fifteen sixteen year old boys and girls. They had in their possession a mixture of beers alcopops and spirits which they admitted cost them around one hundred pounds. This comprised of about one hundred and fifty cans and bottles of beer, about eight large bottles of alcopops and four bottles of spirits!! They were bought it by an eighteen year old friend from Tesco's at Serpentine Green.

They were celebrating the end of school as many of them were off to college and also a birthday of one of the youths. They were drinking under a bridge by a fast flowing stretch of river with no lighting! The alcohol was confiscated and disposed of and they were given words of advice regarding their behaviour, the dangers of being drunk especially next to a river and also the damage that drinking so much alcohol can do to the body.

Letters will be sent to their parents detailing the incident to make them aware. Although these youths thought they were doing the right thing by drinking out of the way and they were friendly and courteous to us at all times the dangers are all to apparent let alone the law breaking involved. It is illegal for anyone under eighteen to drink alcohol in a public place and its also against the law for an adult to buy alcohol with the intent to supply it to under age drinkers plus its just irresponsible.

If you have kids around this age group please advise them of the laws and dangers and also that if they misbehave too much they could find themselves with a room and breakfast for the night at a police station and an expensive day in court for drunk and disorderly! Everyone likes to have fun and enjoy themselves but we all want them to stay safe and prosper in life.

While initially they were OK alcohol soon fuelled noise and the smashing of bottles. 3 Police vehicles attended within 5 minutes and those concerned had their details taken and were moved on. The patrols cleared the litter and glass left behind so as the park would be safe for the next day.

23 March 2006 – NEWS
Reported burglaries and car theft 220306

Please be vigilant and ensure that you check your doors and windows are shut, locked and chained and that your house alarm is on even when you are in the house at night.

Try to break the habit of leaving your house or car keys in the front door near your letterbox. Consider moving any keys or key racks completely out of site of letterboxes and windows to a place where only you and your family can find them in an emergency.

Consider additional security lighting or PIR control of your existing outside lighting to put off anyone approaching your property. The rear or side of a house are where most attempts to break in are made.

If you haven’t got one consider purchasing a house alarm and having it installed. Wireless ones start from £100 plus fitting.

Don’t forget your car or van. Remove anything of value completely from the vehicle. Thieves have learnt that equipment is likely to be hidden under the seat or in the boot or glove box so don’t think these are good hiding places. Check you’ve locked your vehicle before retiring and if you have an alarm or additional deterrent make sure it’s on.

Get all your property including those in your garden shed and garage security marked, etched or stamped so as they become less attractive and in many cases worthless to criminals. I have a permanent UV marker you can borrow if required, please let me know and I will drop off.

Remember your own personal protection. Consider carrying a protection alarm and make sure your back door is locked and your chain is on before answering the front door.

Burglary
Houghton Avenue, 1 April 2006 0100-0930hrs once again car keys were stolen by offender using an implement to hook car keys from stairs where they were left. Vehicle was also - Green BMW X5, Index B9NAA.

We believe this to now be linked to a series of letter box burglaries and would ask everyone in the area to be vigilant, remove and store keys securely (see sidebar feature).

If you are the owner of a high value vehicle then please make sure the vehicle is secured and keys are kept in a secure location.

URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED

Your urgent attention is required with regards to a car seen cruising Park Farm.

The vehicle a Dark Blue or Black Rover 400 (Old Shape) Index L426 TWK was seen in Kedleston Road yesterday evening cruising slowly without lights. The two occupants stopped outside two separate addresses with high value cars and appeared to be checking them out.

Please be vigilant and report any sightings directly to the police on 999 if the car and occupants are still about for an immediate response.

This vehicle and its occupant’s behaviour are highly suspicious and these could well be the culprits behind the recent cases of vehicle theft and letterbox burglaries.
