| An offender has stolen keys and cigarettes by reaching through a dog flap in the rear door of a property in Portchester Close during the daytime. The keys were later used to steal the owners car from their place of work.
If you can help with any information please call the Police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or contact your street coordinator.
While criminals continue to get rewards they will keep going about this 'easy win' type of crime so please try to get into a routine of ensuring you keep keys and valuables such as handbags and purses out of site from such opportunists even when you are at home. Visit our Crime Prevention pages for more suggested ways to protect your property.
If they don't get the reward they move elsewhere. Don't make it easy for them!

A NHW member reported suspicious activity again in Kedleston Road early this morning around 02.00hrs. Two males in dark clothing, were seen trying car door handles.
We've forwarded this report along with others to the neighbourhood policing team to ensure these latest incident reports are getting through to the right people.
Please keep vigilant and ensure you call the Police on 999 immediately you become suspicious of any activity and believe a crime is being or is about to be committed.

A NHW member was woken this morning at about 5am by a noise outside and saw two men trying all the front doors of properties in Portchester Close. Sadly they gained entry into one house and made off with a flat screen TV and DVD player in a dark coloured Volkswagen Golf in a matter of minutes before the police could arrive.
However, the culprits made a big mistake driving down to the end of the road to turn around. They were caught on a members CCTV and this evidence has been passed to the police.
This was a gang looking for reward from opportunist burglary and they got that reward again this morning. While they continue to get such rewards they will keep going about this 'easy win' type of crime so please try to get into a routine of ensuring you lock your doors and windows whenever you retire or go out and that your burglar alarm is switched on even when you're in the house asleep.
It's not just your house they target. In the past they've likely tried your garage door, sheds and checked out your car to see if there was anything worth stealing so please do all you can to make sure you're not their next victim.
If they don't get the reward they move elsewhere. Don't make it easy for them!
If you can help with any further information please call the Police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or contact your street coordinator.

Just a quick note to let you know, that the problem with the mini-motos and motorbikes being ridden along Park Farm Way and on the Green Wheel should be sorted now. During last couple of days, me and my colleagues have caught a few boys on bikes and the bikes were seized, so hopefully there won't be any more trouble with this!
Original Posting - 9th March 2008
A mini moto has been reported as being ridden up and down the green wheel at the bottom of Kedleston Road on Sunday around midday.
Described by the NHW member as quite a distinctive 'White' bike with the 'Number 8' on the side we've passed this information onto our local neighbourhood policing team and urge anyone else seeing this bike to please try to get a photograph of the rider and to report it immediately to the Police on 0845 456 456 4 or contact your street coordinator.

We've had reports by members of prowlers being spotted in gardens, gates being found open in the morning and burglaries over the weekend particularly in Framlingham Road and Eynesford Close but no information has yet been confirmed by the police of exactly what has been reported.
If you've been affected even if nothing appears to have been taken, please report the matter to the Police on 0845 456 4564
Please be vigilant and revisit your security arrangements as a matter of urgency. Speak to your neighbours particularly if they are elderly, infirm or disabled and let them know.
Try to see the keys to your house or car from any window or through your letterbox. If you can see them so can a burglar. Consider getting a bolt and padlock fitted on your gate and shed door and the purchase of a shed and/or garage door alarm from your local DIY store. It is usually during Spring that shed burglaries increase. Make sure your bins are only put out for the minimum time needed. Wheelie bins are commonly used to gain access over fences and gates.

Ensure you lock your car at night, attach any anti theft device, switch on the alarm and take out all valuables. Don't make it easy for crooks to get their reward.
If you spot anyone or any vehicle acting suspiciously call the Police immediately on
999

| A number of Anglia Water uniforms have been stolen form the Market Harborough/Northamptonshire area.
As you are aware, distraction burglars frequently use the excuse that they need to check a water supply in order to gain access to peoples homes. Once inside they will quickly locate and steal cash, credit cards and other valuable items. The elderly and infirm and women who live alone are particularly vulnerable. It is quite possible that these uniforms may be used to gain entry to property. Please be vigilant. Report any unusual callers or suspicious incidents to the police.
Remember STOP - CHAIN - CHECK

We've received reports of an attempted theft of bicycles from a property near the green in Houghton Avenue at 17.00 hrs today. The informant a scheme member and neighbour of the property targeted advised that wheelie bins were used to help scale the fence by up to five hooded youths. The youths were disturbed trying to steal a number of bicycles from the property and ran off.
Wheelie bins are commonly used by burglars to gain access over fences and gates so the best advice is to ensure they are put away or locked securely as soon as possible after collection.
If anyone can help with any information or descriptions of the offenders please call the police on 0845 456 456 4.

More reports of several cars being scratched and badges ripped off have come now come in from the Belton Road area. Most probably linked to the school windows being smashed last night.
Any information should be passed to the police. Anyone wishing to help stop this petty but very annoying crime by becoming more involved and offering real neighbourly commitment should contact Chris on 07939 66488. The police and patrols can't be on the estate at all times so it really is down to you the residents to show that you are not prepared to accept it. Over to you!

Overnight 3 windows have been smashed in the small hall at Heritage Park School. These windows are armoured and therefore will be very expensive for the school to replace. We the tax payers will foot the bill eventually but initially the funds have to be found from the schools budget. Less therefore for the children.
We've also received reports that groups of youths have been hanging about again particularly at weekends causing a noise nuisance and now criminal damage. The patrols report generally that groups have been more active now the school holidays are here but that the area has been generally quiet most nights into the early hours. It would appear that the problems are occurring after the patrols are finished well into the early hours (1am - 3am) and not every weekend. The police have been made aware of the increase.
We can only urge everyone to be vigilant and not wait for others to call the police to report such gatherings where they cause concern.
Our street patrol volunteers currently cover days and nights into the early hours but if members wish to see patrols out and about between 1am and 4am then we will need to see some real commitment and volunteers for this time. This is your decision. Quite simply , if there are no volunteers then it wont happen.
Anyone with any information regarding the school windows being smashed should contact the police on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers or of course your street coordinator in confidence.

You will be pleased to hear, after a call from a member of the public to your local officer PC Ben Duce - 5 youths were arrested in the Lawson Avenue area at around 8pm last night. It was a report that the usual group of youths were in the area of the Parade and many of them were drunk. On arrival, Ben found a group of both girls and boys behaving in a disorderly manner.
During the arrest of one, a struggle ensued and Ben had to call for back up, he even received a punch in the face from a female! During the struggle and trying to hold onto a male and a female prior to assistance arriving, the male made good his escape in a vehicle. | A neighbour had been looking after some pets at a property in Southfields Avenue whilst the owner was away. At approx 2200hrs on the 27th December, the neighbour spotted a male approx 70m away from the house with 3 bikes and found a gate leading to the rear garden open. On putting the key in the lock, 2 males ran down the alley past him and onto the street heading towards St Georges Avenue direction. The neighbour could hear more in the house and saw 3 other males appear from the front gardens of other houses further along the street - they also ran off in the same direction. A ladder which had been stored insecure on the flat roof of the property had been used in order to climb up and force the rear bedroom window open.
May I take this opportunity to remind everyone to check the security of your ladders, whether they are outside or even in a shed/garage please ensure they are locked securely.
